The National Broadband Network (NBN) is a high speed digital network that is planned to reach Australians everywhere.  It will eventually be the new communication network for Australia and will replace traditional phone and internet services in most areas over the next few years.

Safety Link is committed to ensuring that your Safety Link service is transitioned to the NBN in the smoothest possible way.

What will happen?

NBN Company will provide the network connection to your house so that the Retail Service Provider can offer and install Telephone or Internet services (or a combination of these) in your home.

When NBN becomes available in your area, you will be advised by the NBN Company of the type of service that will be provided (this maybe done via a letter).  Once the NBN roll-out has occurred in your area, the copper cable network will be removed.

What do I need to do?

If you have received a letter from NBN Co. advising that they are connecting the NBN in your area, it is important that you do the following:

  • Contact your chosen Retail Service Provider (RSP) and tell them that you have a monitored medical alarm from Safety Link.
  • If a telephone service is required, identify this need to the RSP.
  • Request that the RSP install their equipment in a suitable area for the medical alarm to be connected to.

The Medical Alarm Register

Safety Link encourages its clients to sign up to the Medical Alarm Register as soon as they are notified that the NBN is available in their area. The Medical Alarm Register is used by the NBN Co. to identify households that have a medical alarm.

To register, please go to the NBN Register or call the NBN Co. on 1800 227 300.

Will the alarm work on NBN?

Safety Link has worked closely with the NBN Co. and numerous RSPs to ensure the continued operation of your alarm.

Safety Link alarms operate on the NBN however depending on the connection type, Safety Link may need to replace your medical alarm. Safety Link will advise you if your medical alarm will need to be replaced.

What Does The NBN Equipment Look Like?

The diagram below (for Fibre-To-The-Premises connections) highlights what is fitted by the NBN co (outside your premises) and by the RSP (inside your premises).

An example of what NBN equipment may look like within your premises.

Call us on Freecall 1800 813 617 if you have any questions relating to your Safety Link alarm service and the NBN.
